Behold, Hadrian's Hedonists—a boisterous band of revelers who fancy themselves modern-day Romans, inspired by the ancient wall that once guarded these lands. Their love of history is surpassed only by their love of high spirits and late-night revelries. Gathering at bijou bars and historic pubs, they wear mock togas and refer to Newcastle's finest ales as 'nectar of the gods.' As they traverse the cobbled streets, they recount tales of old battles only to end in laughter and another round. With each hearty 'Ave, Newcastle!' they pay cheeky homage to the Emperor Hadrian while winking at the absurdity of it all. They are a merry bunch, steeped in irony, who believe that a nod to the past pairs perfectly with a pint in the present.
