Guelph Family Martial Arts is home to World Champion Nathan Skoufis, Guelph's top martial arts school. Guelph Family Martial Arts (GFMA) is a family friendly fitness facility that offers karate and fitness (cardio kickboxing) training by Karate World Champion Instructors. Our classes are for everyone and every level of physical fitness, so you and your family can be sure you will feel comfortable in our program.At GFMA our instructors look forward to passing knowledge on to our students. Our belief is that being a well-rounded martial artist is very important; our school incorporates aspects of Karate, Tae Kwon Do, Boxing, Kickboxing and Jiu Jitsu. Through martial arts training at GFMA you will strengthen your mind, body and spirit. We encourage anyone interested in our programs to come visit the school or watch a class. We believe striving for perfection in all aspects is essential, that even though perfection is not possible, if we chase perfection we can catch greatness. We aim to build champions in life, to have students that succeed on and off the mat; we aim to develop students that are self-motivated and self-regulated and that demand excellence from themselves and most importantly those around them. We emphasis discipline, more specifically self-discipline as we need to make the correct decision even if it is not easy to do. We believe through our program students will be well equipped to avoid wrong temptations that are so readily available and frequently exposed to. We emphasis character development as our students are taught to further themselves and to hold themselves to a higher standard than those around them. To respect all of those around us, but most importantly respect ourselves. Our instructors spend hours writing the curriculum for the classes, to ensure it is enjoyable and worthwhile. Students will not see the same workout ever, that is something we pride ourselves on. Each week the classes will have a focal point, an aspect we are aiming to improve, that is carefully selected. then the message is applied to our life. Our school follows a belt system, when a student first starts they start as a white belt. Each belt will have different techniques; each time a student displays a technique they will receive a stripe to signal success of that technique. These stripes and receiving their new belt, offers a great chance for our students to set goals, as well as when achieved offers a sense of accomplishment. The scariest part is changing something in your life, you may feel you are not ready for martial arts, but you are.
