Kashiwa Matsuri

With 700,000 attendees every year, Kashiwa Matsuri is a large-scale festival, even for Chiba prefecture. It takes place over two days, beginning with an opening ceremony outside the east entrance of Kashiwa station. Thereafter, there is a range of festivities centered around Kashiwa station, including stage events, a Kashiwa dance parade, a portable shrine parade, and the Kashiwa Nebuta (floats with models of brave warriors) Parade. Kashiwa Nebuta is the highlight of the festival but it was originally intended to be a one-off event when it was held for the first time. It was born out of Kashiwa's relationship with Tsugaru city, in Aomori prefecture, where the Nebuta Festival originated. The parade has since continued due to popular demand.
